Blog Post #55 - A student went to a teacher and said I cannot learn more and the teacher went to grab a big kettle full of tea..

The Zen teacher told the student that he can leave after he has a cup of tea. The student agreed. The teacher got him a cup and started pouring tea.. and poured more and poured more.. the little cup couldn't take the big kettle's content and started overflowing (What a waste of tea!).

The student said "Master, the little cup cannot take this much tea..stop". The Master replied "Yes. You must empty the cup before I pour more"

The short story is meant to illustrate that most of the time our mind is not empty. We know a lot of stuff and we think we know a lot of stuff.

When someone talks about Africa we think we know everything. When someone talks about Gandhi we know a lot .

Unless we empty our mind we cannot learn.

We ask kids to study. They also learn.

There is a big difference and kids know that they can learn because their mind is empty and they know it. Adults study a lot from books from the world (and from useless blogs like mine) and still don't learn.

We ask kids to do home work . What the kids need to do is home learning. What adults need to do is learn along with the kids.

These are my 2 favorite Quotes from Albert Einstein

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.

Happy Learning
